On the 3rd day, we had to get up at a quarter past 8. Then we had like breakfast and around a quarter past 9 we left the house. Rocio and Chris were going to some sort of factory for their work. We went to the daughter of them . She showed us Lugo and the wall that is around the city centre. The wall is like a roman wall which is like 2000 years old. On the wall many people got out for a walk, on the wall you can have a run or just walk on the wall to see the city from above. After we went up the wall, Stijn and me could get into the city to see some shops. We were in the city until a half past 1. We went back to the house of Ingrid, the daughter, at half past 2 we had our lunch. After lunch it was like 3 o'clock, then we went for the first time to the English centre. The English centre is the school where Rocio, Chris and their daughter is giving lessons to the people. When we came in the school, we saw Chris and Rocio over there. They give some sort of private lessons to all sorts of people, from kids of the age of 5 till people of the age of 30 or 40 years old. When we arrived at the school, I directly got asked to come with Chris to visit some of his students. The first person I met there, was Laura and she was 25 years old. I was surprised, because she was very bad at speaking English. I was asked to have a conversation with her, so I did. It was quite difficult, because lots of things I was saying she just did not understand. When Laura left, some little kids came in. The kids had the age of 5, 6 and 7 years old. I had to learn them really the very first words you learn from English. When they left, me and Stijn were asked to get some decorations in the city for the Halloween event which is coming up. When we got back from the city we were going to decorate the building from the inside. After that I had to give some lessons to children, which had the age of around 12 years. I wondered about the fact, that these children even could talk English as good as the women of 25 years old. The children learned me that in Spain the children already learn English from the age of 4. That is a lot earlier than in the Netherlands, where it is like from the age of 10 of something. Around 8 o'clock we were finished with the working on the school and we went with Ingrid and her boyfriend to 1 of the like 100 bars there are in Lugo. There really are many many bar's in Lugo. Around 10 o'clock we had dinner at Ingrid's house. Around 11 o'clock, we got picked up again by our hosts Now we are watching television and in like half an hour or maybe a bit longer we will go to bed. In Spain you have a really different time table as in the Netherlands. In Spain the people wake up around 8 o'clock in the morning and they will go to bed at 1 a.m. You see the days are very long so at the end of the day you are really tired and you are happy when you are in your bed.

    Erwin Van Ballegoij:

    Hi Sven,

It is good to read that you are surprised by the level of your English. Now you see what submerging in English at our tto department does to your level of English! You might have noticed that some words that you are using and are very easy to you, are already beyond comprehension for people like Laura, and that you have to find even simpler words to get across what you mean. It is always good to have a much higher level than the students you are teaching, but you must be able to think down to their level. That is the tricky part. The Spanish people come to the school because they want to learn English, so you can expect that their level is not that good.

    Have Fun!
